This was going to be a defining match; Windsor had lost the previous week in the final minutes, throwing away a 14 point advantage at half time. Windsorhad lost their composure as the opposition caught up after half time.
Entering this week’s game we had a number of key injuries, this resulted in a number of positional changes and the introduction of 3 players on their debut
To add to the equation was Bicester pack, always a strong factor in the match between the 2 teams, tighthead Tom Horwood was on his 300th cap would come up against Billy Porter.
The game started as expected and Bicester played a physical game with there forwards holding on to the ball for long phase and putting Windsor defence under enormous pressure, Windsor defended well and came back into the game as the forwards started to show the first signs of dominance in line outs and scrums. Luke eventually crossed the line after a good build up by the whole team as he broke there line out wide. 7-0 Bicester struck back almost immediatly 7-7.Windsor secured there second try after a good line out, running around the corner with Alan finally crashing over under the poles. Half time saw the score at 14-7 to Windsor.
The second half started with Windsor continuously on the attack but could not breach the defence line.
We had our chances but could not finish off with a number of dropped balls at critical moments,Alen broke the line and the try was on with one more pass, Alen decided to chip it for the wing to chase, disaster their wing plucks it out the air takes of like a chetah and scores under the poles. 14-14
Looked like Last week all over again, things got worse as Windsors shape broke down and the game became loose. Bicester then got the 3rd try when a loose ball was hacked ahead and well chased by there centre.14-21. All looked lost but this could be the turning point of the season- Windsor took it to them from the kick off with some terrific play, the scrum got 2 tightheads and the pressure opened up space for Kieren to take it to them with pace crossing the line with a number of defenders attached. 21-21.
Windsor continued the pressure and managed to secure a penalty about 40m out,up steps Baggy and slots a great kick, for Windsor to hold out for 24-21 win.
The referee was fair with both sides, at times the offside line was pushed but we need to understand this is difficult to manage when there are no qualified linesman. Overall both sides discipline was good and the overall match entertaining.
Finally - Bicester we look forward to getting to your place later in the year.
