In recent matches, Windsor have absorbed pressure, scored and then fallen behind. This time felt different, High Wycombe attacked early, Windsor’s defence held until the end of the first quarter, when Wycombe crossed for 0–7.. Windsor then dominated without reward, having three tries disallowed—two for a foot in touch and one held up under the posts. Wycombe struck again before half-time to lead 0–14.
Windsor returned with greater aggression. Nick charged through the defensive line ( RAGING RHINO ) gaining 10 metres beyond the advantage line, before quick ball to Baggie and Gaylor’s clever pop pass on the wrap around released Joe to score from 50 metres: 7–14. Windsor levelled at 14–14, only for Wycombe regaining the lead at 21–14. An unconverted Windsor try made it 19–21.
With two minutes remaining, Windsor forced a late penalty, and Jack Gaylor calmly slotted it between the posts for a 22–21 win.
This competitive contest was probably Windsor’s best performance of the season, their comeback bodes well for the coming weeks as they develop into a winning side.
Thanks to the referee, who handled the match very well, hardly a word of complaint was heard from the Windsor supporters.
His officiating allowed the game to flow and contributed to the high standard of play.
