Last Saturday the Men’s 1st XV travelled to Grove in their latest Southern Counties North League Match. Over the years Grove has always been a difficult place to get a victory and as a consequence the side were expecting a physical match. In difficult windy conditions it became evident that Windsor would need a good performance to get a result in front of a big home crowd.
Windsor opened the scoring within the first 10 minutes with Tom King scoring a try which was converted by Ben Grant Adamson to make the score Windsor 7, Grove Nil.
Windsor increased their lead soon after when Ben Grant- Adamson scored Windsor’s second try and converted it to increase the lead to 14 points to Nil.
Grove’s forwards started to dominate the scrum with Windsor forwards being put under extreme pressure which resulted in Windsor conceding a number of penalties which resulted in Grove’s first try to reduce the arrears to 14 points to 7. Ben Grant- Adamson increased Windsor’s lead by kicking a penalty before Grove scored their second try in the latter stages of the first half.
Windsor increased their lead further when they scored their third try before half time.
Half Time Score Grove 12 Windsor 24.
The second half was a similar story with the Grove forwards dominating the scrums. Fortunately the home side were not able to take advantage of this dominance with Gareth Gibson and Allen Crawshaw dominating the line out throughout the game.
Windsor were to increase their lead during the second half with a Ben Grant Adamson penalty and a try by Joe Triegaart which was converted by Ben Grant- Adamson ensuring that Windsor won their sixth successive match and cemented second place in the league behind Beaconsfield, who remain unbeaten.
Final Score Grove 12 – Windsor 34
Vansittart Arms Player of the Match Ben Grant Adamson.
The Men’s Development XV hosted Marlow 2nd at Home Park in their latest BBO League Match. The game turned out to be very competitive with Marlow bringing a very strong side.
Final score Windsor Development XV 17 Points, Marlow 46 points.
SOUTH WEST RFU ST AUSTELL ‘TRIBUTE’ TEAM OF THE MONTH:
Last weekend the Men’s 1st XV were advised by the South West RFU that they had won Berkshire’s Tribute Team of the Month for their results during November.
Many congratulations to the Head Coach Andrew Symons and his team and the players.
Sunday Rugby Round Up:
The Colts A Team travelled to Oxford Harlequins for the latest OBB Colts Match and got back to winning ways with an impressive 52 points to 14 victory.
The U16s travelled to local rivals Maidenhead for their OBB league game and lost 26 points to 15 in a close competitive match.
The U14 A team game was cancelled and the Development side hosted Hungerford in the U14s Berkshire Development Cup
Report from U14s Coach Andrew Chorley.
It was an exciting Development game against Hungerford who provided tough opposition and included a number of DPP players in their ranks. We eventually went down 17-24
In the round it was a brilliant team performance Harvey Thompson had a strong match as captain leading by example with an outstanding work ethic. The front 5 were great including Mikey in his first game. Their coach called out Rocky Loveridge for a tremendous shift at hooker where we did not lose any scrums despite us coming under huge pressure throughout. The boys were excellent at the ruck throughout stealing plenty of Hungerford ball.
Maxie on debut made good ground in Thea centre of the park and Sanu did brilliantly at unfamiliar position of full back and was awarded POM off the back of his line breaks and strong tackling.
Sam Brown's try was great example of us working the phases and understanding where space was getting a few passes and taking advantage of an overlap which we have been working on last few weeks so very pleasing to see.
Seb at scrum half did well with kicking duties including perfectly weighted restart in last few mins which Charlie Hathaway gathered at full pelt on the 10m line and nearly made it through to score which could have drawn it!
The U13s won in the U13s Berkshire Cup beating Newbury by 9 tries to 2 and the B Team lost by 7 tries to 1 to a strong Reading side in the U13s Berkshire Development Cup
As The Dames did not have a game the Damsels U14s took centre stage hosting Winchleigh ( combined girls side from Winchester and Eastleigh Rugby Clubs)
Report from Becs Curley.
The Damsels U14 grew in confidence as they hosted their latest league match against Winchleigh on Sunday. Coaches asked them to focus on tackling and defence and they did a great job. As ever, their resilience was outstanding and they did really well. Their game awareness and confidence was such a step up from last week they should all very proud. Final score was Windsor 5 - Winchleigh 40.
I have some photos to send as well.
