Well at last the first competitive rugby of the season when London Cornish visited the home park for a preseason friendly. The weather was great and the field a little hard but it did not stop both sides having a crack at each other. This game had all the characteristics of the start of the season challenges great moments and disappointing moments.
Both sides can take optimism from the match as the season starts, it was physical, fast passed and both sides showed skills in periods. In the end Windsor topped the score line, but it did not really matter as this was a friendly and both teams were rotating players throughout the 3 30 min periods.
Windsors pack was competitive and for a 20 min section were totally dominant, lines outs where a work in progress but were on the positive side, we could have utilised the maul a bit more, but when we did, we went forward.
The back line suffered a set back when Joe Trichart cut his finger trying to throw a piece of steel from the pitch during the warmup, the slice needing stitches the 10 min in the first session Jack Gaylor suffering a broken nose from an unfortunate collision. As the game progressed the backs started to find some shape, and looked dangerous in periods, still to many dropped balls and misdirected passes which change attack into defence, but this will change with match time.
Still a lot of work to do in the next 2 weeks.
