Match Report

Last Sunday saw the U14 As take on Newbury in the semi-final of the Berkshire Cup, and our development team take on RAMS in a game that had the chance of us winning the B’s league.
In the end the A’s won 20-7 against a strong Newbury team, while the Development team sadly lost to a very strong RAMS team 44-0.

The A’s V Newbury game was played in good spirit by both sides. Memories of the dramatic late drop goal from Jack King to win the last round vs Bracknell were banished and Windsor started strongly making good yards in the outside channels and putting in some good tackles to keep Newbury at bay.

Eventually the pressure told with Tom Viney going over out wide. Windsor looked dominant especially with some strong carries from forwards Luca Mongey, Benji and Elliott, then some good interplay finally saw Windsor score a second try by Ash to keep the lead.

Windsor gathered the kick-off through Jack Peddar and a few phases later a powerful run down the right by Zeki Clarke put us 15-0 up. Windsor looked in control , especially through captain Dylan Hayes-Garcia’s immense tackling producing the moment of the match near the end driving one of the Newbury forwards back with a thumping low hard tackle. Windsor scored again through Tom Viney to make it 20-0 and should have seen the game out but a drop-off in intensity saw Newbury score under the posts late on to make it 20-7.

A really strong all-round performance sees us take on Maidenhead for the second year running in the County Cup Final on February the 9th at Home Park. Windsor will need to take it up another level to reverse the result of last year. It promises to be some game.

The Development team were playing too against RAMS, and if they had won the match they were in with a chance of winning the league. Sadly it was not to be our day. RAMS turned up with a very strong team, Windsor stuck in well throughout the day , but we struggled to contain 4 very large and fast players , that would not have looked out of place in most teams A team.

Our team tackled and competed all day, leaving everything out on the pitch. Notable performers were Alex at 10, in attack and defence, Digby led from the front as captain, and took the game to the opposition, Max had a dynamic game in the loose, Josh kept the forwards moving, and Owen played with precision and decisive running through the centre.

Our team is full of talent and some of our new players played their first game for Windsor – Well done for Ali! Onwards and upwards for everyone, Don’t miss the final on the 9th Feb.
