WINDSOR RFC Minis

The Minis of Windsor RFC were thrilled to once again welcome their friends from Reims Université Club (RucBy) for a fantastic weekend filled with rugby, friendship, and fun.

The weekend, hosted by the U11 group, kicked off on Friday evening with a Halloween-themed welcome party at the clubhouse. After a hearty dinner prepared by the organisers with the help of our favourite chef Tony, the celebrations continued with live music from a talented band from Windsor Boys’ School, much to the delight of both the young players and their parents!

Saturday began with a scenic morning walk from the Long Walk to Eton College, where U11 coach Paul kindly arranged a private tour for our French guests. After lunch, it was time to get back to what we all love most, rugby! The kids took to the pitch for friendly matches, followed by a light-hearted “Crunch” between the coaches of both clubs. We are still not quite sure who won… but everyone agreed it was great fun!

At 3 p.m., everyone gathered at the clubhouse to watch the England game, the perfect opportunity to share a ‘verre de l’amitié’ with our French friends. The day ended in true community spirit with a bonfire and fireworks display at the Greyhound in Eton Wick, rounding off a memorable day of sport and celebration.

Sunday brought even more excitement as teams from Twickenham and Bracknell joined the fun, alongside special guest Zinzan Brooke, former New Zealand captain and World Cup winner. Zinzan led the minis through a brilliant training session and a series of friendly games that beautifully blended French flair with English efficiency. Parents watched on proudly as the children showcased teamwork, respect, and sportsmanship in abundance.

The weekend concluded in true Franco-English style, with Zinzan sabering a magnum of champagne Jean Boucton from the Reims region, as players, parents, and guests raised a glass to an unforgettable weekend.

A huge thank you to all the organisers, volunteers, and host families for making this exchange such a success. It was a perfect celebration of everything rugby stands for: Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline, Sportsmanship and above all, FUN!
